Greater Khulna committee plans 15-day agitation

Leaders of Greater Khulna Development Action Coordination Committee have announced a 15-day movement programme, including a rail line siege on September 29, to press home their 12-point demand. They came up with the announcement at a press conference at Khulna Press Club on Wednesday. The programmes include submission of a memorandum to the prime minister through deputy commissioner on September 16 and staging sit-in at Picture Palace intersection in the city on September 22. The demands include construction of modern railway station, gas supply through pipeline in the region, establishment of Padma Bridge, Shilpakola Academy and deep sea port at Akram point, modernization of Mongla Port, completion of the ongoing airport project at Foyla, reopening of the closed Daulatpur jute mill and Newsprint mill, reconstruction of Khulna district stadium and turning Bhomra land port as an International port. Sheikh Ashraf-uzzaman, secretary general of the committee, read out a written statement at the press conference. Among others, committee president SM Daud Ali, leaders Nizam-ur-Rahman Lalu, Firoz Ahmed, Sheikh Mossarrof Hossain and Mizanur Rahman, were present.
