Six dens of forest robbers destroyed
A joint force of the law enforcers recovered four firearms and destroyed six dens and three watch towers of the forest robbers after a gunfight with notorious Shahidul Bahini at Geoakhali in Koira upazila in Khulna district yesterday morning.
Commander M Saidur Rahman of Coastguard, Mongla west zone, said a joint team of Rab-6, police, coastguard and forest department launched a drive in the area at about 5am acting on a secret information that the gang members of Shahidul were preparing to commit robbery.
He said the gang members fired on the law enforces when the joint force reached Gayowakhali area at about 9am, forcing them to retaliate. The law enforcers and the robbers exchanged gunfire for over an hour.
At one stage, the robbers fled away. None was injured or arrested during the gunfight.
Later, the joint force raided the area recovered destroyed three towers and six dens of the robbers.
