Tragic!
A schoolboy was killed as a goalpost collapsed and one of its bars fell on him at a playground in Dighinala upazila on Wednesday evening.
The victim, Mohammad Fazlul Karim Rubel, 15, son of Mohammad Abul Bashar of Purbathana area, was a class seven student at Anath Ashram Residential High School.
Police said the bar of the dilapidated goalpost fell on Rubel, leaving him critically injured.
He was rushed to Khagrachhari Adhunik Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared him dead, said Mohammad Israfil Majumder, officer in-charge at Dighinala police station.
The incident occurred at around 6:00pm when the victim was removing net from the goalpost following the final football match of national inter school-madrasa sports competition.
Locals blamed sports management committee for the incident as the committee held the match without repairing the bar.
