Four injured as rivals clash over control of railway land
At least four people were injured in a clash between two groups over taking control of railway land near Mogholhat rail gate in the district town yesterday.
The railway authorities demolished 15 illegal structures on their land in the area on Wednesday evening.
After departure of Communications Minister Obaidul Quader, also in charge of the railways ministry, from Lalmonirhat yesterday noon, the two groups gathered in the rail gate area to erect new structures on the land.
Later, they locked in a clash over capture of the land, leaving at least four people from both sides injured. Being informed, police rushed to the spot and dispersed the clashing groups.
One of the injured named Ripon Islam, 32, was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in a critical condition while the rest given first aid at a local clinic.
Officer-in-Charge Sirajul Islam of Lalmonirhat Railway Police Station said police have been deployed in the area to thwart any bid to grab the railway land.
