People of Naogaon in Dakkhin Matlab yesterday protested the death of Jubo League leader Khabir Hossain Jony. The aggrieved villagers brought out a procession and burnt the effigy of a local lawmaker. They also wore black badge while the shops hoisted black flags. Khabir Hossain, a Jubo League leader and personal secretary (PS) to the Chandpur-2 MP, was attacked by a gang of youths on his way to home at Naogaon village under Dakkhin Matlab upazila on August 29. Khabir succumbed to his injuries after six days on Tuesday at a hospital in Dhaka. Mosharaf Hossain, elder brother of the victim, filed a murder case accusing 19 with Matlab Dakkhin Police Station. Kabir's family members believe that he was a victim of internal conflict in the locality. Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended in Naogaon village after the dead body of Khabir reached there yesterday afternoon. His first namaz-e-janaza was held at Matlab New Hostel field which was attended by leaders of the ruling party including MP Rafiqual Islam. Police Superintendent of the district Amir Jafar told this correspondent that steps would be taken according to law after investigation into Khabir's death.
