Shibir, police clash in Jessore, 5 injured

Five people were injured as Chhatra Shibir and police clashed in Bagherpara upazila yesterday morning. The clash followed police action for bringing out procession without permission. Shibir brought out the procession to protest the arrest of Azharul Islam, Jamaat acting secretary, on charge of war crime. Police arrested Shibir activists Walid Hasan, Emdadul Haque and Enamul Hasan after the clash. Officer in-charge (OC) of Bagherpara police station Rofiqul Islam said, Shibir men brought out the procession from the Dahakul area and marched toward Bagherpara intrersection. Police intercepted them in front of livestock office. Although the Shibir activists retreated but they returned after a while. Police charged batons to disperse them, the OC added. At this, the Shibir men threw brick bats at police, leaving five people including ASI Israfil injured. A case under Speedy Trial Act was filed accusing 7/8 Shibir activists including the arrestees, said police.
