Two children drown
Two minor children met their tragic end on Tuesday noon when they went for bathing at a pond.
The hapless kids were identified as Sharmin Aktar, 5, daughter of Hyder Ali and Rubina Begum, 6, daughter of Abdur Rahim of Durakuti village in Sadar upazila.
Locals quoting police said Hyder Ali took his cattle to a nearby pond at Dubachuri Government Primary School on Tuesday noon.
His daughter Sharmin Aktar and her niece Rubina followed him in a bid to take a bath in the pond.
After bathing of the cattle, Hyder Ali got up from the pond and returned home. Suddenly, he remembered about the two children and rushed to the pond.
Hyder and other villagers anxiously looked for them in the pond but it was too late.
At about 1.30 pm, the bodies of the two children surfaced only to be recovered and buried later.
