Landslide kills 2 in Bandarban
Two workers were killed and eight others injured in a landslide while cutting a hill at Akhongjhiri Para in Balaghata of Sadar upazila early yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Mohammad Ismail, son of Farid Medha of Sadar upazila, and Abdul Mannan, son of Mostafa Sikdar of Patuakhali district.
Witnesses said, Ismail and Mannan died on the spot and eight other workers were injured when a large chunk of earth collapsed on them while cutting the hill at about 3am.
Police recovered the two bodies of the workers with the help of a bulldozer.
Police also arrested nine people on charges of cutting hill illegally.
At least 20 workers had been engaged in cutting the hill, owned by Shyamal Tongchonga and Urdhendu Bikash Chakma, since midnight.
