2 killed in clashes over disputed lands in 2 dists
Two people were killed and 29 others injured as rival villagers in Sirajganj and Naogaon districts clashed for control of disputed lands on Friday.
A farmer was killed and 25 others were injured in a clash between the supporters of two villagers over a disputed land at Polashi village in Tara upazila of Sirajganj on Friday evening.
The deceased was identified as Abu Syed Sarker, 65 of the village, reports our correspondent.
Md. Ataur Rahman, the officer in-charge of Tarash police station, said that the supporters Syed Mia and Akbar Ali locked in a fierce clash with lathel and country made weapons like billhooks and spears, minutes before the iftar.
The clash left 26 people including Abu Syed, Tafiz Uddin, 35, Rahim, 35, Shfi, 32, Shariful, 30 and Habibur Rahman 30 injured.
Among the injured, 15 people were taken to Tarash upazila health complex and Sirajganj General Hospital.
However, Abu Sayeed died on the way to hospital.
In Naogaon, a young man was killed and four others were injured in a bloody clash between two rival groups over a piece of disputed land at Boidyabati village in Dhamoirhat upazila on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Jambu, 30, of the village, reports UNB.
OC Zia Latiful Islam of Dhamoirhat PS said there was a long-standing conflict between Jambu and his co-villagers Mozammel Haque and Nabibar Rahman over the land.
Locals said, an altercation ensued in the afternoon when Jambu along with his supporters went to cultivate the land. After a white, both the groups equipped with sharp weapons and sticks attacked each other leaving Jambu and four others seriously injured.
They were rushed to Dhamoirhat health complex. Later, Jambo was shifted to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at about 10pm.
