A former secretary of now defunct Rangpur municipality on Thursday allegedly burnt a huge number of files containing important documents of the municipality. A few staffs of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) alleged that Moshiur Rahman along with his men entered the administrative office of the corporation at noon and took away the files without the knowledge of the authorities. Later, he set the files on fire at a toilet of RCC, they said. They also said Moshiur burnt the files to ruin the evidence of corruption by a top official of the former municipality. Contacted, Moshiur said he went to the office to keep the files in order before handing them over to the new secretary of RCC. “But an office attendant while cleaning my room took away a few files mistaking them for waste papers and set those on fire on the office premises”, he added. “A probe committee led by corporation secretary Aktar Hossain has been formed in this regard and asked to submit report within seven working days”, said Kazi Hasan Ahmed, administrator of RCC. Moshiur was transferred to Nilphamari municipality recently and supposed to join there today, said RCC sources.
