Gaibandha education office besieged
Locals and teachers of two educational institutions in Fulchhari upazila on Tuesday besieged the district education office, demanding refund of 'extra fees' taken for enrolment of teachers and employees in the list of monthly payment order (MPO).
The protesters also sought approval of the two newly formed managing committees.
At on stage, they locked in an altercation with the education officer Azahar Ali attempted to manhandle him, witnesses said.
On information, police rushed in and rescued him from the wrath of the agitators.
Locals alleged that the education officer took 'bribe' for approval of the newly formed managing committee at Sadullapur Pilot High School and governing body of Chandia Mohila College. He also promised to arrange teachers' MPO facilities.
Despite receiving money, the education officer was not intentionally enrolling the teachers and employees in the list of MPO, they said.
Refuting the allegations of taking bribe, the education officer said that the matter would be resolved soon as per rules and procedures.
