Habiganj Jubo Dal, JCD men acquitted
A Habiganj court yesterday acquitted 34 Jubo Dal and JCD men in a case filed under the Speedy Trial Act on April 21.
A member of Habiganj Shilpakala Academy filed the case, accusing the 34 activists of BNP's youth and student fronts of vandalising public property on the day.
District Jubo Dal President Azizur Rahman Kajol, district JCD Convener Tajul Islam Chowdhury, Joint Secretary Syed Mushfique Ahmed and Habiganj pourasava (municipality) councillor Abdul Awal Majnu were among the accused.
In the case statement, the complainant said the accused took out a procession in the town on April 21 to mount pressure on the government to return “missing” BNP central leader Ilias Ali.
At one stage, the processionists locked in a clash with police and vandalised Shilpakala Academy building and other public offices in the town, the complainant stated.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Muslehuddin passed the order as the prosecution failed to prove the involvement of Jubo Dal and JCD men in the act of vandalism.
