SI closed in Meherpur
Sub-inspector Maruf Hossain, in-charge of Baradi police camp under Gangni upazila, was closed to Meherpur police line yesterday following a demonstration by local traders demanding his removal.
Police sources said one Nobis Uddin, a television maker, repaired a TV set of Maruf last month.
But the SI threatened to arrest Nobis when he asked for the repair fee of Tk 1200.
Nobis along with a few traders stopped Maruf yesterday afternoon while he was passing by his shop and asked for the money. Aggrieved, the SI assaulted the TV maker.
At this, local people, including the traders, blocked Meherpur-Chuadanga highway for about three hours, demanding removal of Maruf.
The protesters withdrew the barricade following an assurance by police superintendent Mirza Badullah Hel Baki of taking steps to meet the demand.
