Joypurhat Government College was yesterday declared closed until July 31 following a clash between the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on the campus. College sources said the clash was a sequel to an altercation between the activists of JCD and BCL on the college campus on Tuesday night. Being informed, police rushed to the spot, dispersed the clashing groups and brought the situation under control. BCL and JCD blamed each other for the incident. Contacted, Principal Prof Akramul Haque said the college authorities suspended all academic activities until July 31 to avert any untoward incident on the campus. Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, officer-in-charge of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station, said a large number police have been deployed on the campus. No one was arrested in connection with the incident as of filing of this report at 5:00pm yesterday.
