BNP, BCL men file cases accusing each other

BNP and BCL on Wednesday night filed two separate cases in connection with the attack on a BNP leader and bomb explosion on Monirampur College campus. Police said Monirampur upazila unit BNP president and municipal mayor Shaheed M Iqbal Hossain filed a case accusing 25 leaders and activists of Awami League, Jubo League and Chhatra League including municipal councilor and municipal Jubo League convener Adam Ali and his brother Monirampur College BCL unit president Jamal Hossain in connection with Wednesday's BCL attack on the BNP leader Abdul Gafur, general secretary of Jessore Ainjibi Samity and chairman of Momin Nagar union parishad. Police arrested two activists of Jubo League from their houses in this connection at night. They are Rakibul Islam, son of Abdul Majid of Bijoyrampur village and Abdul Wahab, son of Asar Ali of Durgapur village in the same upazila. Meanwhile, Monirampur College unit BCL general secretary Shajahan Siraj the same night filed a case accusing 21 BNP men including Monirampur Sadar UP chairman and upazila unit Jubo Dal general secretary Nistar Farooq in connection with the bomb explosion of three bombs on college campus during a BCL meeting on Wednesday noon. The BCL activists, following the bomb explosion, became furious and attacked the nearby municipal building and damaged two motorbikes and two vehicles of mayor and president of BNP upazila unit advocate Shaheed Iqbal. Later, they swooped on BNP leader Abdul Gafur and stabbed him indiscriminately with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. Gafur was admitted to Jessore Medical College Hospital and them shifted to PG Hospital in Dhaka. The district Ainjibi Samity on Wednesday observed day-long work abstention to protest the attack on Gafur.
