Sunamganj accused arrested
A young man was killed and at least 10 people were injured in a clash between two groups over a piece of disputed land at Shankarpasha village in Sadar upazila on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Nesar Mia, son of Jalal Mia of the same village.
Locals said, there had been a longstanding dispute between Golam Mostafa Member and Arab Ali of the village over the ownership of the land.
The clash ensued as Arab Ali along with his men tried to occupy the land. Later, both the groups equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other at noon, leaving Nesar Mia and ten others injured.
Critically injured Nesar Mia was rushed to Sadar Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead.
Of the injured, Golam Hakkani, Jalal Mia, Jamir Ali, Rezia Khatun and Nasima Khatun were admitted to the Sadar Adhunik Hospital.
In Sunamganj, another young man was shot dead and three others bullet-hit in a fierce clash between two rival groups over previous enmity at Raibangali village in Derai upazila on Tuesday afternoon, reports our staff correspondent in Sylhet.
The deceased was identified as Ali Hossain, 35, son of Hasan Ullah of the village.
SI Ziaur Rahman of Derai PS said there was a longstanding dispute between Zahir Ali and Ali Hossain of the village. On Tuesday, supporters of Zahir Ali attacked and opened fire on Ali Hossain's men in the afternoon triggering a bloody clash that left Ali Hossain dead on the spot and seven others injured.
Golam Rabbani, cousin of the deceased, later filed a case accusing Zahir and 59 others.
Police arrested prime accused Zahir Ali when he went to surrender his licensed firearm to Sunamganj Sadar police station yesterday.
