Pass percentage falls, No of examinees rises

The pass percentage in the HSC examinations under Rajshahi Education Board this year has slightly declined compared to last year's, despite a boost in the number of examinees. As many as 1,05,135 examinees appeared in this year's HSC examinations under the board against last year's 77,681 while 78.44 per cent examinees came out successful this year against 79.01 per cent in 2011. Although lesser number of female candidates appeared in the examinations, they made greater percentage than males in securing GPA-5. Out of 49,712 appeared female candidates, 3372 got GPA-5, the percentage being 6.78, while the males made it at 6.32 per cent as 3500 of them got GPA-5, out of 55,423 examinees. The examinees from business studies group attained the highest 86.23 per cent pass rate wile examinees of humanities, Islamic studies and music group attained 76.96 per cent rate and those from science and home economics group got 73.92 per cent pass rate. Examinees appearing from Rajshahi district achieved the highest 81.48 per cent pass rate under the board this year while Bogra (80.10 per cent) and Pabna (80.07 percent) secured the second and third places. From Nawabganj district, 77.43 percent examinees came out successful while the percentage is 77.17 in Natore, 77 in Naogaon, 75.25 in Sirajganj and 71.37 in Joypurhat district.
