HSC pass rate up as girls outshine boys
The pass rate in this year's HSC examinations under the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Dinajpur, jumped by 9.23 percent compared to last year's while girls continued outshining boys for the third consecutive year.
Of the 85,773 students who appeared in the HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate) examinations from 504 educational institutions in eight northern districts under Dinajpur board, 64,679 came out successful, the pass rate being 75.41 percent, according to the results published yesterday.
In 2011 the pass percentage in the board was 66.18.
This year 76.36 per cent of the female examinees passed while the percentage among boys is 74.46.
However, among 5009 Grade Point Average (GPA)-5 achievers under the board, 2775 are boys and 2234 girls.
The pass rates in science, humanities and businesses studies groups are 73.02, 74.20 and 81.98 per cent respectively.
Twelve colleges under Dinajpur board saw hundred percent pass while nobody came out successful from five colleges, board sources said.
Rangpur district saw the highest 1,653 GPA-5 achievers among the eight districts under Dinajpur board while Lalmonirhat district has the highest pass rate (78.80 per cent).
All the 46 examinees of Rangpur Cadet College secured GPA-5.
Md Joynal Abedin, principal of the college, said, "This institution did the best result in Dinajpur board for the third consecutive year. It is a great achievement for the students as well as those who are involved with the institution."
Of the 541 candidates from Rangpur Cantonment Public School and College, 535 students passed and 377 of them secured GPA-5.
"Sincerity of teachers, students and guardians acted behind such a good result in the HSC examinations," said Col Md Rashedul Islam Khan, principal of the institution.
