Another bullet-hit worker of Akij Bidi Factory died yesterday, raising the death toll to three.
Nazrul Islam alias Kala, son of Afroz Ali of Koipal village in Daulatpur upazila, succumbed to his injuries while being taken to Dhaka from Rajshahi Medical College Hospital at about 5 in the morning.
Earlier, two workers of the factory Raqibul Islam, 40, and Mintu Ahmed, 30, of Boiragirchar in the upazila -- were killed and about a dozen others injured when Ansar members opened fire on the demonstrators on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Mintu's brother Sentu Ahmed filed a case with Daulatpur PS on Monday night in connection with the killings.
Witnesses said, several hundred workers of the factory started demonstrating in front of the factory on Sunday morning, demanding wage hike.
The trouble began when a group of workers loyal to the owners attacked the protesters, triggering a clash between the two groups.
At one stage, the on-duty Ansar members of the factory opened fire on the demonstrators, killing Raqibul on the spot and injuring at least 12 others.
Of the injured, Mintu died on the way to the local upazila health complex.
Meanwhile, the factory authorities yesterday handed over cheques for Tk 5 lakh as compensation to the family members of each victim.
