Pabna traders block road protesting attack
Several hundred traders of Kashinathpur Bazar yesterday blocked Dhaka-Pabna highway in Santhia upazila, demanding the arrest of the criminals who attacked their fellows.
The protest programme began in the afternoon, halting traffic movement on the highway for about two hours.
Md Abdus Sobhan, president of Kashinathpur Traders Association, said a gang, numbering 30-35, suddenly swooped on the traders of the bazar at around 12:30pm and vandalised at least 15 business establishments.
The attackers also shut three educational institutions near the bazar forcefully.
Later, the agitating traders put up barricade on the highway, protesting the attack, said Sobhan.
At the programme, the protestors threatened to go for a tougher agitation if the attackers were not arrested within 24 hours.
Ekramul Haque, officer in-charge of Santhia police station, said a longstanding feud between the villagers of Borat and Morichpuran under the upazila over establishing supremacy at the bazar, led to the attack.
