PCP enforces roadblock in Khagrachhari
Buses and other vehicles remained off the streets in three upazilas of the district as Pahari Chhatra Parishad (PCP) enforced a half-day roadblock programme yesterday.
The upazilas are Matiranga, Ramgarh and Manikchhari. The roadblock began at 6:00am and ended at 12:00pm.
No buses left for Chittagong and Dhaka as the PCP men agitated at different points of roads since morning.
No untoward incident took place during the protest programme, said acting police superintendent Abdus Salam.
Earlier PCP, the students' wing of anti-peace accord United People's Democratic Front, announced the programme at a rally in Shanirbar Bazar area of the district town on Monday afternoon.
They were protesting rehabilitation of the Bangalee settlers allegedly by grabbing land of hill people in Pilavhanga area of Ramgarh.
The speakers at a rally on Monday alleged that the local administration took control of about 10 acres of land owned by Purnacandra Chakma in the area to rehabilitate at least 45 Bangalee families.
They urged the authorities to hand over the occupied land to Purnacandra Chakma immediately.
Meanwhile, local Awami League leaders refuted the allegation of land grabbing.
They said, while visiting the site of rehabilitation on Tuesday, the family of Purnachandra could not produce any document in favour of their claim.
