30 including Kuakata councillor hurt in attack
At least 30 people including Kuakata municipality councillor were injured as a criminal gang, allegedly hired by a housing company, attacked them in the yesterday morning in Kuakata town.
The injured include Monir Sarif, 35, councillor of Kuakata municipality, Abbas, 21, constable of Kuakata police station and Al-Amin, 30, Ibrahim Howlader, 30, Khalil Sharif, 50, Boni Sharif, 13, Renue Begum, 36, Sahid Begum, 40, Taslima Begum, 34, Momotaz Begum, 34, Morseda Begum, 35 and Abu Sharif, 30.
The arrestees were identified as Zakir Hossain, 22, Mohim Hossain, 23, Oli Howlader, 22, Ashraf Bepari, 20, Kawsar Howlader, 32, Al-Amin, 18, Hiron, 28, Evan Howlader, 22 and Delwar, 30, all from different villages of Kuakata. Police also seized two motorbikes used by the gang.
Police said, a gang of 25/30 led by SK Ronjon, an employee of a local housing company started construction of boundary wall of a plot at about 8am on the day, defying an HC order.
At this, Monir Sharif, councillor of Kuakata municipality went to the spot and asked them to stop the construction work. Angered, the gang attacked Monir Sharif. When police and locals rushed to the spot, the gang also attacked them.
Locals and police chased them and caught 9 of the gang.
Contacted, Hasnain Parvez, in-charge of Kuakata police section said that a housing company wanted to start construction work with the help of hired goons defying an HC order. We will take lawful action in this regard, he said.
