Bullet-hit Swechchhasebok Dal leader dies at hospital

A local leader of Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebok Dal who sustained bullet wounds during an attack by criminals in Sadar upazila 10 days ago, died at a hospital in the capital yesterday morning. The deceased was identified as Md. Mohsin, joint convener of district unit of the voluntary wing of the main opposition BNP. Mohsin was under treatment at Green Life Hospital in the capital where he succumbed to his injuries in the morning after fighting for life for 10 days. Earlier, on June 18, the Swechchhasebok Dal leader sustained bullet wounds when a gang opened fire on him at Chandraganj Paschim Bazar in Sadar upazila. Police and witnesses said, the criminals, believed to be followers of Jisan who was expelled from BNP, stormed into the business establishment of Mohsin in three motorbikes and two CNG-run auto-rickshaws around noon. The gang exploded several bombs in front of the business house, hacked Mohsin and shot at him, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to Noakhali Modern Hospital and then shifted to Green Life Hospital in the capital following deterioration of his condition. In Manikganj, at least 10 Swechchhasebok Dal men were injured when some aggrieved party men attacked the procession of the newly formed committee at Singair yesterday, reports our correspondent. Earlier, a 74-member committee of Singair upazila unit Swechchhasebok Dal was formed on Wednesday with Akram Hossain as president and Shafiqul Islam as general secretary, party sources said. The new committee brought out an introductory procession from Singair upazila BNP office at around 11:00am. A few rival party men led by Monem Hossain Biplob and Anwar Gazi attacked the procession with sticks when it reached near upazila complex, sources said. The group attacked the procession as they failed to capture any post in the committee, party sources said.
