Storm lashes 2 Kurigram upazilas

Tornado lashed five unions of Bhurungamari and Nageswari upazilas yesterday morning, damaging at lest 500 houses, five educational institutions, a BGB camp and injuring two people. Around 400 trees were also uprooted during the storm lasted for a few minutes, said locals. The affected unions are Keder under Nageswari upazila and Baldia, Pathordubi, Char Bhurungamari and Bhurungamari Sadar under Bhurungamari upazila. The injured were identified as Kefat Ullah, 40 and Nabi Hossain, 35, of Baldia union. Torrential rain hit the upazilas at around 5:30am. After a few moments, the tornado ravaged at least nine villages of the unions. The two were injured in house collapse when the storm suddenly hit their union, said local UP chairmen. Mokhlesur Rahman, chairman of Baldia union, said the tornado uprooted at lest 250 trees and damaged 200 houses of the union. Wajidul Kabir, chairman of Kader union, said “The tornado hit the union, damaging over 100 houses and uprooting at lest 150 trees. The camp of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) of the union were damaged.
