6 held over Kanchan killing
Police arrested six youths from the port city since Friday evening to early yesterday in connection with Kanchan Ghosh murder.
They are Md Mohiuddin, Md Sona Miah, Tauhidul Islam, Anwar Hossain, Mohammad Hossain, and Md Mizan.
Police said the arrestees, in primary interrogation, admitted that they killed Kanchan and dumped the body in the river Karnaphuli from a fishing boat under Kotwali Police Station on May 26, says a press release.
The body was washed away to a canal and Bakalia police later recovered the body. Kanchan Ghosh, 32, a resident of the city's Patharghata, went missing on May 23.
Quoting the arrested persons, police said a clash between two groups of friend occurred over stealing a mobile phone of Sona Miah at Fishery Ghat.
Blaming Kanchan for the stealing, they beat him up to death, police said.
