Ensure sound child health: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina yesterday called upon all, including parents, public representatives and health officials, to work sincerely to ensure sound health for the country's future generation. "We want our country to be developed and prosperous one… the future generation will have sound health and lead the country ahead," she said while inaugurating the countrywide National Vitamin 'A' Plus Campaign at her Gono Bhaban residence. She administered the children aged between 6 and 11 months the blue Vitamin A capsule while children of 1-5 years age group the red Vitamin A capsule. The prime minister also fed the children of 2-5 years of age the de-worming tablets. A and de-worming tablets and other vaccines are needed in due time to help build a healthy and strong nation. She directed the public representatives, including lawmakers, members of Zila Parisad, upazila and union councils, to give special attention to whether all children are brought under the immunisation programme. Under the campaign, more than 2.20 crore children, aged six months to five years, are being fed high-powered Vitamin A capsules while more than 1.90 crore children are being given de-worming tablets across the country.
