Woman killed while settling clash

An elderly woman was killed after receiving head injuries during a clash she tried to stop between villagers over collecting drinking water in Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat yesterday. The victim was identified as Dilzan Bibi 60, of Swaroshwatipur village in the upazila. According to locals, the poverty stricken people of the village collects water for their daily needs from a single tube-well installed by local government. However, yesterday afternoon villagers were arguing over collecting water from the tube-well. Soon it evolved into a clash with bamboo and other wooden sticks, they said. When Dilzan came forward to settle the clash, she received head injuries and fell unconscious. She died on the way to the upazila health complex. Ali Reza, sub-inspector of Akkelpur Police Station, confirmed the incident and said a case was filed in this connection.
