With a pledge to establish dignity of women, half of the country's population, a three-year campaign was launched in the port city yesterday. Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF), its partner organisations, and the women and children affairs ministry will jointly conduct the campaign. The launching of the campaign was formally announced at a press conference at Chittagong Press Club. Elma Executive Director Jesmin Sultana Paru gave the welcome speech, while CODEC Deputy Executive Director Kamal Sengupata read out a written statement. The statement said women had been playing important roles in family, society, politics, economy and culture for decades, but their contribution was ever neglected. Their roles did not get any recognition, and it is necessary to change the attitude of the state and society towards women and increase their dignity through recognising their contributions in all aspects, it added.
