Another held in cop killing

Police yesterday arrested another youth in connection with the killing of assistant sub-inspector of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station Belayet Hossain at a police barricade in the city last Thursday. The arrestee was Mohammad Humayun Kabir, 40, residing at Dharmik Para in Demra. On Thursday, a bus, carrying stolen cows and five thieves, was fleeing when it hit a police barricade on Begum Rokeya Sarani in Agargaon, killing Belayet and injuring four others. Though police arrested the bus driver, Mohammad Sentu, and seized the bus, the accomplices managed to flee. Police arrested Kabir, one of the accomplices, from his house yesterday following a confessional statement by Sentu. Kamal Hossain, sub-inspector of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station and investigation officer of the case, said eight members are active in their gang while five were present in the bus during the incident. Kabir and his brother-in-law Alamgir, who is absconding, led the gang, he added. Demra police said Kabir was accused in five cases of robbery and murder filed with different police stations.
