Prisoner dies in CMCH

A prisoner of Chittagong Central Jail, who was undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), passed away yesterday. The deceased was Shamsul Islam, 28, son of Abdur Rahman of Teknaf upazila in Cox's Bazar. He was suffering from Chronic Lever Disease, said Nur Mohammad Sohel, deputy jailer of Chittagong Central Jail, quoting CMCH doctors. Shamsul was arrested by Teknaf police in a case of yaba trading on February 29, he said. Since Shamsul was suffering from hepatitis B, he was transferred from Cox's Bazar Jail to Chittagong Central Jail on April 9 and, later, admitted to CMCH for treatment, he said. He died around 3:00am yesterday and his body was handed over to his family, Sohel added.
