10 killed in road crashes
Ten people, including a couple and two university students, died and five others were injured in separate road crashes in Feni, Chittagong, Brahmanbaria, Rajshahi, Netrakona, Joypurhat and Thakurgaon early Saturday and yesterday.
Staff correspondent from Chittagong reports: Sadia Akter, 25, a doctor, was killed and her husband was injured as their motorbike overturned at Selia village in Parshuram upazila in Feni yesterday afternoon.
Injured Md Saifuddin, also a doctor, was undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) in a critical condition.
CU correspondent says: Sultana Rajia, a master's student of Public Administration Department of Chittagong University (CU), was severely injured as a CNG-run auto-rickshaw ran over her when she fell down from a motorbike before Mehedi Park (a community centre) in Hathazari upazila in Chittagong on Saturday.
She succumbed to her injuries on the way to Chittagong Metropolitan Hospital.
Our Brahmanbaria correspondent adds: Two people were killed and three others injured when a bus rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw from the opposite direction on Dhaka-Brahmanbaria highway at Nandanpur in the sadar upazila yesterday.
The deceased are Sufia Khatun, 45, and her daughter Shuhana Akter, 5.
In Rajshahi, Nurjahan Aktar, 23, a first semester MBA student of Rajshahi University, was critically injured as a motorbike hit her while she was crossing Dhaka-Rajshahi highway before the university at around 12:30pm yesterday.
She was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
In Netrakona, two people were killed and another was injured when a truck knocked down a rickshaw on Netrakona-Mohonganj road at Rajurbazar in the poura area of the district yesterday.
The dead are Abul Hashem, 42, and Kentu Mia, 32.
Injured Abdul Kaiyum was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Our Dinajpur correspondent adds: Faruk Hossain, 14, son of Mamun-ur-Rashid, was killed instantly as a bus crushed him at Charmatha intersection at Jamalganj in Joypurhat sadar upazila on Saturday.
In another accident, Laili Begum, 60, wife of Md Moslem Uddin, died when a passenger bus hit her at the hospital turning point in Joypurhat town on Saturday.
In Thakurgaon, a pick-up van hit Md Shabuj, 12, son of Nurul Islam, at Amgaon in Haripur upazila, leaving him dead on the spot on Saturday.
