Reserve forests on rise: Minister
Environment and Forests Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud yesterday said the number of reserve forests in the country had increased from eight to 34 in the last three years.
Social afforestation played a vital role in conservation of biodiversity in our country and more than one lakh hectare landscape would be brought under such forestation, he said.
He told a book and website launching programme at the Dudhpukria Dhopachari Wildlife Sanctuary in Rangunia upazila of the district.
US Ambassador to Bangladesh Dan W Mozena urged all to take the best care of local biodiversity to ensure a good and environment friendly world for the next generation.
Richard Greene, USAID mission director, Ram Sharma, deputy chief of IPAC, and Farid Uddin Ahmed, executive director of Arannyk Foundation were also present.
