9 killed in road crashes

Nine people were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Brahmanbaria, Benapole, Netrakona, Rangpur and Dinajpur on Tuesday and yesterday. Our Staff Correspondent reports: A helper of a bus driver was crushed under the wheels of the vehicle while trying to board the running bus at Mohakhali in the capital yesterday morning. The deceased was identified as Liakat Hossain, 31. Meanwhile, the body of an unidentified person of around 40 years was found near Lotus Tower in Khilkhet area of the capital around 4:30am yesterday. Police suspect that he was killed in a road crash. Our Brahmanbaria Correspondent adds: Two people were killed and three others injured when a truck hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Kuttapara village in Sarail upazila yesterday. Bahar Mia, 45, of Betbaria village in Sadar upazila and Hafez Abdul Basir, 26, of Terokanda villager in Sarail upazila of the district, died instantly. The injured were admitted to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital. Our Benapole Correspondent adds: Two youngmen were killed when a truck hit their motorcycle at Mahidia Bazar in Sadar upazila of the district yesterday evening. The victims are Salim Hossain, 20, son of Khorshed Ali of Khorki area in jessore town and Babu Mia, 23, son of Motiar Rahman of Nilgonj area of the town. Our Netrakona Correspondent adds: A minor boy died in a road accident at Mansurpur village in Atpara upazila yesterday morning. Police said a motorcycle hit Mosharaf Hossen, 4, son of Santu Mia of Mansurpur village, while he was crossing the road, leaving him dead on the spot. Rangpur Correspondent adds: An unidentified youngman was killed as a truck ran over him in Mirbagh Bazar area of Kaunia upazila on Tuesday night. Agitating locals put up barricades on the road for one hour. UNB adds: A schoolgirl was killed as a microbus hit her at Goalhat village in Sadar upazila of Dinajpur yesterday. Suja Rani, 6, a student of class one of Goalhat Primary School and daughter of Prodip Saha of the village died instantly.
