Govt detached from people: BNP

Staff Correspondent
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday said the government has become detached from the people and they have no confidence in the government due to its boundless corruption. “People are no more with the government and they will protect democracy and the country through a tougher struggle,” he told a discussion on the occasion of Independence Day. Agriculturist Association of Bangladesh organised the meeting at the auditorium of Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in the capital's Ramna area. Fakhrul also reiterated the demand for restoring the caretaker government system in the constitution. MK ANWAR ON TRIBUNAL
BNP standing committee member MK Anwar yesterday criticised the activities of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT). “It is no rule of law at all. The accused are being deprived of self-defence,” he told a discussion at the Dhaka Reporters' Unity office. Referring to the recent order of the ICT accepting the statements of 15 prosecution witnesses as evidence in a case against Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee, the BNP leader said it's not rule of law but just a prehistoric idea. Organised by Centre for Democracy and Peace Studies, the meeting was also addressed by Farhat Quader, wife of war crime suspect Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, and Jamaat leader Shafiqul Islam.
