Printing Ebtedai, Dakhil Textbooks
Change in bidding to favour printers with old machines
The government is likely to amend the tender invitation for printing ebtedai- and dakhil-level textbooks for next year allowing participation of a section of printers, who have no modern equipment, in the bidding process.
Meanwhile on Sunday, it decided to extend the deadline for purchasing tender schedules by 15 days, until April 15 this year.
The education ministry yesterday held a meeting with the leaders of Bangladesh Mudran Shilpa Samity at the secretariat with Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid in the chair.
This is a sequel of a four-point demand pressed by a section of printers, who do not have modern printing machine. Their demand included cancellation of the tender for printing ebtedai and dakhil (primary and secondary level of madrasa) textbooks.
Last month, the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) invited tender for Tk 3.66 crore copies of textbooks for the ebtedai and dakhil levels mentioning that only the printers who have web machine, a modern printing device, can participate in the bidding.
Sources in the ministry said if the government allowed the printers who have old traditional machine; it might compromise the quality and the delivery time of the textbooks.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, the education minister said, “We want quality textbooks on time.”
He, however, said they would also ensure participation of the printers having old printing machine.
Education Secretary Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhuryy said they were considering the whole issue so that the printers possessing old machines can participate in the bidding.
