4 Commercial Service Providers
Census begins today
The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) will begin census 2011-12 on four types of commercial service providing organisations across the country from today.
The census will be conducted on decorator, security, cleaning and recruiting service agencies and will continue till April 10, said a BBS press release yesterday.
It will help determine their total financial strength and percentage of contribution to the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
The survey is needed as the country's agriculture-based economy is gradually shifting to industry and service-based economy.
Meanwhile, the BBS has provided training to some 200 employees at its office in Dhaka and at 23 other regional offices in the country to carry out the survey on service providers accurately.
BBS sources said the country's industrial and service sector is growing, contributing 30 percent to the national economy now that was only 15 percent earlier.
On the other hand, contribution of the agriculture sector has now declined to 16 percent from 21 percent, the sources added.
There are 18,000 decorators in the country who are providing services to people even at the union level.
Besides, there are 486 security service providers, nearly 500 cleaning service providers and 416 recruiting agencies in the country.
