Secretariat lift traps people for 15 minutes

Staff Correspondent
Nine people had a panicking experience as they got stuck in an elevator for around 15 minutes in a Secretariat building yesterday noon. The lift of Bhaban-6 carrying them along with a liftman all on a sudden stopped at the 14th floor around 3:00pm while going down. The elevator is an oldest one in the Secretariat. As it got stuck, the liftman blamed voltage fluctuation and assured that it would be in operation within five minutes. “Don't worry sir, it is quite a regular phenomenon”, he said. This correspondent happened to be inside the lift at that time. A person claiming to be an engineer of the Bhaban opened the lift door after the trapped people started pounding on it. The lift emergency button has run out of order long ago. The building has six lifts.
