Different government, non-government, socio-cultural and political organisations observed the country's 41st Independence Day yesterday in a befitting manner. The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) observed the day with huge enthusiasm. Besides placing wreaths at the National Memorial and hoisting flags at all its units, special prayers were also offered at mosques for seeking salvation of the martyrs' departed souls who sacrificed their lives during the War of Liberation. Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education organised a discussion at its office where officials concerned were present. Jatiya Press Club organised a drawing competition for children and a cultural programme to mark the day. Different organisations held discussions, colourful processions rallies, recitation from holy Quran and doa mahfil, according to press releases. Leaders of Workers Party of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Juba Moitree, Zaker Party, Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Parishad, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote and Tathya Bangla Foundation placed wreaths at the memorial in Savar. Bangladesh Masjid Mission organised a doa mahfil on the occasion. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh High Commission in Pakistan observed the day in Islamabad. High Commissioner Sohrab Hossain hoisted Bangladesh's flag where officers and Bangladeshi expatriates in Pakistan were present at the programme. He called upon all to contribute to their respective fields to uphold the country's image.
