One held with foreign cigarettes
Police arrested a person from Cement Crossing area in Patenga of the port city yesterday for illegally possessing huge quantities of foreign cigarettes.
Aminul Hoque, 40, of Khulana, was arrested with 500 cartons of Benson & Hedges, Mond, Essie White and Essie Black cigarettes worth about Tk 20 lakh.
Using a fake Pakistani passport, Aminul flew in from Dubai with the cigarettes yesterday. He 'managed' the customs officials of Shah Amanat Airport to get the cigarettes inside the country, police said quoting him.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a drive at the Cement Crossing area and halted Aminul's private car. The police found the cigarette cartons when they checked the car.
