Teachers lay siege to JU VC's office
A group of agitating teachers of Jahangirnagar University (JU) yesterday laid siege to vice-chancellor's (VC) office demanding his resignation, as he did not meet their demands.
Earlier, the teachers observed the same programme on Saturday to press home their demands. But the VC was absent at his office on both days.
The teachers had announced on March 18 a 10-day protest programme for the resignation of the VC.
Under the banner of 'Shikkhak Samaj', they have been demonstrating on the campus to meet their several demands, which include holding elections to the post of VC, dean, and bodies of senate and syndicate, and a stop to the appointment of teachers, since the murder of Zubair Ahmed, a student of the university, on January 9.
