Eminent Gano Sangeet (songs of the masses) artist and freedom fighter Mahbubul Haydar Mohon passed away in a city hospital Friday, says a press release.
Mohon, founding general secretary of Ganosangeet Somonnoy Parishad, will be remembered for his contribution to the movements against the autocracy of HM Ershad and for the trial of war criminals.
Members of Bangladesh Ganosangeet Somonnoy Parishad expressed deep shock at his death and condoled with his bereaved family members.
His body was taken to the central Shaheed Minar yesterday where people from different walks of life paid tribute to him.
Following a namaz-e-janaza at Dhaka University central mosque, his body was taken to his village in Choddagram where he was laid to rest.
Expressing shock at his death, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued a condolence message Friday.
