Nine killed in road accidents
Nine people, including a couple, were killed and at least 28 others injured in separate road accidents in Comilla, Narayanganj, Tangail, Brahmanbaria and Netrakona early Thursday and yesterday.
UNB from Comilla reports: Three people were killed as a bus hit a motorbike on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Chaygharia in Chandina upazila yesterday morning.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
Police said the accident took place at about 6:00am when a Dhaka-bound bus from Feni rammed a motorbike carrying three people, leaving the trio dead on the spot.
Our Narayanganj correspondent says: A couple was killed and another injured as an iron rod-laden truck suddenly stopped without any signal and a speeding car carrying them hit it from behind on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Simrail bus stand area in Siddhirganj yesterday.
The deceased are Alamgir Hossain, 45, and his wife Hasina Shilpi, 35, hailing from Badda area in the capital.
Injured Babul Mia was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
In Tangail, a bus driver and his helper died and at least 12 others injured as a bus rammed a three-wheeler on Tangail-Mymensingh road at Deolabari in Ghatail upazila yesterday.
The deceased are Kabir Hossain, 32, the bus driver and Joaher Ali, 23, his helper.
The injured were rushed to Madhupur Upazila Health Complex. Later, six of them were sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) as their conditions deteriorated.
In Brahmanbaria, an iron rod-laden truck collapsed due to heavy load leaving the trucker Shaheen Mia, 35, of Patuakhali, dead instantly at Ayubpur in Bancharampur upazila on Thursday night.
Locals and police said the truck was going to Jagannatpur village from Dhaka. While crossing the Ayubpur Bridge, it collapsed with a big bang.
In Netrakona, worker Khalilur Rahman, 16, son of Hashimuddin, was killed and 15 others injured when a passenger bus knocked down a three-wheeler carrying 20 to 25 construction workers on Rampur-Durgashram road in Kendua upazila yesterday morning.
Seriously injured Jahurul Islam was sent to MMCH while the others to Kendua Upazila Health Complex and Netrakona Sadar Hospital.
