8th Wage Board
Call to make March 28 rally a success
Journalists will hold a rally before Jatiya Press Club in the city at 11:00am on March 28 demanding formation of the 8th wage board.
On the same day, journalists and workers in newspapers and news agencies will observe a token strike at their respective offices from 10:00am to 1:00pm to press home the demand.
The decisions came at an extended meeting of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ), Sangbadpatra Press Sramik Federation and Sangbadpatra Karmachari Federation at Jatiya Press Club.
The meeting attendees expressed grave concern as the gazette notification for the 8th wage board was not published. The information minister, as per the prime minister's specific directive, had given instructions to form the wage board within the first week of February, says a press release.
The meeting, chaired by BFUJ President Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, criticised the information minister for delaying the formation of the wage board following non-cooperation from the Newspaper Owners' Association of Bangladesh.
The meeting further decided that a movement will be forged in the newspaper industry and the resignation of the information minister will be demanded if the announcement of the formation of the wage board does not come before March 28.
