Chittagong youths are eagerly anticipating the events centering on “The Daily Star Odommo Chattagram” festival, to be launched at MA Aziz Stadium in Chittagong city on March 30. Of the 20 unique events, 11 have caught their attention as they bring to light the culture, history, heritage and prospects of Chittagong. One such budding mind, Salsabil Sumaiya, expressed her enthusiasm to participate in “Historical Journey of School Students” on March 25 and 27. The class eight student said she had already read about the historical sites in Anderkilla area in the city that 400 students like her would be taken around during the event to understand the significance they represent. “These two days will play a vital role in our self exploration,” said Nurul Abrar, a student of Chittagong University. “Each of us will delve deep into our roots to get a greater understanding of our history and heritage.” Another event that Nurul expressed his eagerness to witness is “Chittagong Youth Cultural Activities”, which will be held at Chittagong Shilpakala Academy on April 3 and 4. It would be a treat to watch the school, college and university students of Chittagong showcase their talents in different cultural programmes and go head-to-head in different competitions like debates during the event, he said. Nurul, who is in his final year in BBA, said he would also set aside time to visit “Chittagong Brands Expo” at the MA Aziz Stadium gymnasium from March 31 to April 7. “I am looking forward to knowing what entrepreneurs of Chittagong have to offer at the event which would help me gain a better understanding of what business opportunities Chittagong is yet to access,” he said. A music enthusiast, Shibani Eshwari, said she just could not wait for the start of “Music, Dance and Indigenous Festival” on DC Hill premises from April 7 to 9. “I just love to see performances on music and dance. This event, where all of Chittagong's talents will congregate at one point, will be a spectacle to watch,” said the class nine student gleefully. “I also have a knack in painting and am planning to visit the Painting Exhibition which will be held at the Institute of Fine Arts, Chittagong University from March 30 to April 5,” she said. Food lovers will not be left out during the festival as some social organisations and eateries of Chittagong are going to present the succulent dishes the port city boasts of. Shibani said she would definitely go round MA Aziz Stadium gymnasium grounds where “Chittagong Food Festival” will be held and experience the food diversity in Chittagong's kitchens, like the meat of Mezban and dry fish curries. Tushar Shubra Dev, a college student, said he would definitely be the first to be present on the banks of the Karnaphuli river to witness the boats participating in the “Shampan Baich” (boat race), which will begin at 3:00pm on April 6. An aspiring scientist, Shubhankar Datta, has his hopes held high on “Science in Chittagong” to be held at Theatre Institute Chittagong on April 6. In his fourth year in chemistry at Chittagong Government College, Shubhankar said, “There is little scope for innovative minds of Chittagong to showcase their talents and this is the right platform to project the new ideas.” “Theatre Festival” is another event that Shubhankar, a theatre and film enthusiast, seeks to relish as it will present performances by the finest of Chittagong's drama and theatre groups. He said he would try his utmost to watch the maximum number of shows that will be presented at the event, to be held simultaneously at Theatre Institute Chittagong and Chittagong Shilpakala Academy from March 31 to April 4. Shubhankar said he would also not miss out on the “Film Festival” at Fulki auditorium from April 4 to April 7 where films based on and containing images of the port city would be projected. Thanking The Daily Star for organising such vibrant events, an engineering student, Mahiuddin Azad, suggested holding such events outside the port city to draw people's interest in and disseminate the specialities of Chittagong.
