PM delivers untrue speeches in JS
Says Fakhrul
BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir yesterday said it was Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who had delivered untrue speeches in Parliament, not Opposition Leader Khaleda Zia.
“I will quit politics if the government can prove that our chairperson's speech was false,” Alamgir, also a former state minister, said adding that someday the prime minister will be held accountable for delivering false speeches in the House.
The BNP leader was addressing a rally before the BNP central office in the city to protest the government's initiative to try the BNP's Senior Vice Chairman Tarique Rahman. City BNP Convener Sadeque Hossain Khoka presided over the programme.
A Dhaka court on March 18 framed charges indicting Tarique and a few others in the August 21 grenade attack case.
Mirza Alamgir asked the government to withdraw the cases filed against Tarique.
Otherwise the government would have to face a trial in the court of the people as the cases against Tarique were absolutely false and politically motivated, he added.
