Irregularities in drain construction

Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi
A probe committee of Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) yesterday detected irregularities in the drain construction work of Tk 4 crore in the city under the Medium Town Development Project. Following the findings, the concerned contractor Kabir Hossain was asked to rebuild some 200 feet of the total 3000-feet under-construction drain, said Ashraful Haque, acting chief engineer of RCC. He added the contractor was also asked to take away all the low quality construction materials he gathered at the construction site and replace those with quality ones. Rajshahi Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton suspended the drain construction work two weeks ago after he noticed during a spot visit use of low quality construction materials and irregularities in work. He formed a six-member probe committee headed by Shahidul Islam, councillor of ward no 30, to investigate the matter.
