A mobile court of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) yesterday removed an “illegal” nursery in a drive at Katalgonj area. Ekhlas Uddin Ahmed, assistant estate officer of CCC, said a local businessman Moktadir-Al-Faruk took the land on lease for a year from CCC in 2010 and set up a nursery there. Though the lease period ended but he did not hand over the land to CCC and tried to build shops in the vacant portion of the land, he added. Executive Magistrate of CCC Kazi Mohammad Abdur Rahman led the drive with the assistance of police and Rab forces. However, leaseholder Moktadir said he got the lease before two years but did not get the total land in his possession. He approached the City Corporation several times but they were sitting on the issue. He claimed that CCC did not issue any notice to him to remove his establishments. Ekhlas Uddin admitted the claim saying it was mentioned in the condition of the lease that the leaseholder would have to handover the land to the authority after the lease-period. Ekhlas Uddin also said they went the spot on Monday for eviction but failed as locals of that area resisted them.
