SCBA polls begin tomorrow
The two-day annual election of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for its 14 executive posts, including president and secretary, will begin tomorrow.
The polling will take place from 10:00am to 5:00pm.
A total of 3,829 lawyers of the Supreme Court have registered as voters in the country's major bar association polls.
Three panels are contesting the election that will be conducted by the bar's election sub- committee under the leadership of Advocate Md Nur Hossain Chowdhury.
The panels are ruling Awami League-backed Sammilita Ainjibi Samannaya Parishad (SASP), the opposition BNP-backed Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad (JAOP) and neutral Niropekkho Ainjibi Oikya Parishad (NAOP).
According to SC sources, the main contest in the election will take place between the panels of SASP and JAOP.
Four senior lawyers Munsurul Hoque Chowdhury (SASP), Zainul Abedin (JAOP), ABM Nurul Islam (NAOP) and Md Eunus Ali Akond (independent) are contesting for the post of president while Momtaz Uddin Ahmed Mehedi (SASP), Helaluddin Mollah (JAOP) and Md Shahjahan (NAOP) are contesting the election for the post of secretary.
The other candidates of SASP are KM Saifuddin Ahmed and Md Mostafa (vice president), Mohammad Aminul Islam Litu (treasurer), AKM Towhidur Rahman and Md Nur-un- Nabi Bulbul (assistant secretary), and Jobaida Pervin, Md Abdul Aziz Miah (Minto) Md Abu Towhid Bhuiyan Prince, Md Sharafatullah, Sabiha Yasmin, Sanchita Saha and Sayeda Sabina Ahmed Molly (executive member).
The rest of the candidates of JAOP are Md Ashraf-uz-Zaman and Saifuddin Md Aminur Rahim (Chandan) (vice president), Shah Md Munir Sharif (treasurer), Md Faruk Hossain and Md Sahiduzzaman (assistant secretary), and Jahanara Begum, Jannat Sultana (Mukta), Md Asrarul Haque, Md Kamruzzaman Selim, Muhammad Mizanur Rahman (Masum), Rafat Jahan Luna and Shahanara Parvin (Bakul) (executive member).
NAOP's other candidates are Amalendu Bikash Roy Chowdhury and Md Shahidullah (vice president) and Md Emdadaul Haque Kazi (treasurer).
