9 killed in road crashes
Nine people were killed and at least 26 others injured in road accidents in Dhaka, Lalmonirhat, Sherpur, Jessore, Pabna and Dinajpur on Thursday and yesterday.
BSS from Savar reports: A man and a minor boy died instantly as a truck hit them while crossing the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Balibhadra Bazar area of Ashulia on the outskirts of the capital yesterday morning.
The deceased could not be identified immediately.
Our Lalmonirhat correspondent says: A Dhaka-bound coach ran over Monir Hossain, 48, a schoolteacher, at Khedabag village in the sadar upazila at around 9:30pm on Thursday, killing him on the spot.
In another accident, Mominul Islam, 26, of Patgram upazila, was killed as a three-wheeler hit him at Dhonirtari village in the upazila on Thursday night.
UNB from Sherpur adds: A bus fell into a roadside ditch at Jhagrar Char Uttar Bazar in Sribordi upazila, leaving two garment workers of a Gazipur factory dead and at least 20 others injured at about 3:00pm yesterday.
The deceased were Sayeed Ali, 40, of Roumari in Kurigram, and Hasan Ali, 48, of Rajibpur upazila.
Our Benapole correspondent says: Nurjahan Begum, 30, was killed on the spot and six others were injured as a bus plunged into a roadside ditch at Aminpur in Monirampur upazila of Jessore district yesterday.
The injured were rushed to Monirampur Upazila Health Complex.
In Pabna, Arzina Khatun, 5, daughter of Shukchand Ali, was injured critically when a Nasimon (three-wheeler) hit her at Sondova village in Chatmohar upazila at about 12:00 noon yesterday.
She died on the way to Chatmohar Upazila Health Complex.
In Dinajpur, a motorbike hit Babu, 18, son of Abu Bakkar Siddique, from behind at Hargaon village in the sadar upazila on Thursday evening, leaving him injured critically.
He succumbed to his injuries at Dinajpur Medical College Hospital yesterday noon.
