BCL defies Sylhet Agri University ban

Staff Correspondent, Sylhet
Defying the authorities' ban on protest programmes and political activities, Bangladesh Chhatra League took out a procession and staged a rally at Sylhet Agriculture University (SAU) yesterday. The protesters demanded withdrawal of the case filed against 36 students for vandalism on the campus and expulsion order against another 20. The BCL men under the banner of "common students" went on vandalism after the results of the veterinary science and animal husbandry department were announced on January 19, showing that 47 students out of a total of 65 failed to pass the examinations. On January 20, the university authorities sued the 36 students for damaging property worth about Tk 14 lakh. The authorities expelled another 20 from the university for different periods on Monday, as they were engaged in destructive activities in connection with the same incident.
